Westchester Ballet Company Information

Westchester Ballet Company is a not-for-profit organization separate from the Logrea Dance Academy. It is run by its own board of directors and artistic directors with the purpose of producing quality ballets for the community.

WBC was founded to:
  1. establish and maintain a dance repertory company for the education, training, and advancement of students in the art of ballet and other forms of dance;
  2. stimulate public interest and foster understanding, appreciation, and support of the art of ballet and other forms of dance;
  3. promote and encourage talent through concerts, presentations, and scholarships.

In 1950, Iris Merrick, a former student of Michel Fokine, established the Scarborough Children’s Ballet Theater, which officially became known as the Westchester Ballet Company in 1954. Annual performances of The Nutcracker were an early tradition of the company. In 1980, after 30 years as its director, Ms. Merrick retired.

Since 1986, the company has been under the artistic direction of Beth Fritz-Logrea and Jean Logrea, who have expanded its repertoire; annually raised and awarded scholarship funds to qualified students; instituted special school performances of The Nutcracker to educate a new, growing audience; and refurbished The Nutcracker with new choreography, sets, costumes, guest dancers and an increased number of performances.
